You won't have to look far to find a grocery store in Ambergris Caye but there are some things you should know before you head out to shop. You won't find any international chains here or anywhere else in Belize. There's no Whole Foods or Safeway, and no megamarkets like Target and Walmart with big grocery sections, which means you might have to go to multiple places to do your shopping to pick up everything on your list.
Instead, while on Ambergris Caye you'll need to shop the local stores, doing your grocery shopping in San Pedro, or just north or south of town. We've put together this ultimate guide revealing all you need to know for a successful outing.
North of Town
Village Supermarket
Location: ¼ Mile North San Pedro, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 7 AM - 9 PM, daily
The Village Supermarket is especially convenient for those who want to pick up groceries when heading to destinations north, just a quarter-mile north of town. It offers a good variety of imported products, including many familiar U.S. brands.
The Farmhouse Market & Cafe
Location: ¼ Mile North San Pedro, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 7 AM - 9 PM, daily
One of our favorite newer options in San Pedro, The Farmhouse Market & Cafe offers some of the best coffee in town along with delicious and healthy smoothies and juices. You can also find a variety of exotic fruits like soursop, mangosteen, and starfruit. If you're looking for a sweet treat, Paradice Ice Cream is available by the scoop.
The Beach Basket
Location: Grand Caribe, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 8 AM - 9 PM, daily
The Beach Basket offers a decent selection of the basics while being conveniently located for those staying north of town. Prices tend to be the same or just a bit higher than what you'll find elsewhere but it can be worth it for the convenience. It's a great place to pick up pizza and imported deli meats.
San Pedro Grocery Convenience Store(Palm’s Supermarket)
Location: 3 Miles North, San Pedro, Belize
Located 3 miles north of San Pedro, San Pedro Grocery Convenience Store is a great stop for guests staying north of town or en route to Secret Beach. It offers a wide selection of imported goods, including many popular U.S. brands and a large selection of beverages.
Mikah’s (Vegetables & Groceries One Stop)
Location: 3.5 Miles North, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM Monday - Saturday, 8 AM - 2 PM on Sunday
The fruit and vegetable stands are often the best place to find fresh produce, with Maria's a new favorite north of town right across from Belizean Shores Resort. A one-stop shop for all your fruit and veggie needs, it's also the best place to buy fresh juice, including coco (coconut), pina (pineapple), and naranja (orange). You'll see the daily menu written on a board out in front, which often includes homemade salsa and guacamole.
The Winey Gringa
Location: 3.5 Miles North, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 8 AM - 7 PM, daily (time can change due to the season)
The Winey Gringa not only offers wine, champagne, and beer, including Belikin, but a good variety of all the basics and quite a few specialty items, including asiago and jalapeno/cheddar sourdough bread. With trays that include sliced fruits, cheese, and crackers, it can also be a good spot to pick up items for a picnic.
San Pedro Town
Super Buy Supermarket

The closest thing to a one-stop shop you'll find, Super Buy is one of the most popular grocery stores in San Pedro. It's where the locals go for the most varied selection. There are now two locations, one right in town and the other just south, referred to as Super Buy South. Even if you don't need anything at the grocery store, you might want to go simply to immerse yourself in the local daily life.
Look for local snacks that can be ideal for putting together a picnic and getting a taste of the Belizean culture. You might even ask a member of the staff what one of their favorite simple meals is that can be made using local ingredients. Just be sure to check the expiration dates as it's not uncommon to find expired products on the shelves. While you shop, in addition to picking up groceries, you can often find some good souvenirs.
The Greenhouse

Hours: 8 AM - 6 PM Mon-Sat, closed on Sunday
The Greenhouse is a small but popular market that some refer to as the "Whole Foods" of Belize. It offers a wide range of local items, with a focus on healthy options, including high-quality produce like microgreens and fresh fruit, along with local spices, cheeses, seafood, and meats. With many imported specialty items, it's also the place to go for that "missing" ingredient or to pick up a gluten-free snack.
Caye Mart
Location: Pescador Dr, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 7 AM - 9 PM, daily
Caye Mart is another favorite. A family-run business providing friendly service, it offers a wide range of cheeses, frozen meats, and select fruits and veggies. There's a good mix of local and imported products from the U.S. and if you're looking for vegan or gluten-free items, there's a good chance you'll find it here.
Richie's
Location: Pescador Dr, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 7 AM - 9 PM, daily
Right across the street from Caye Mart, Richie's offers a variety of food items but it may be the best place to go when you're looking for local rum and other liquor, wine, or beer with an extensive selection.
Annie's Pastries
Location: Laguna Dr, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 1 PM - 8:30 PM, closed on Sunday and Holidays
If you're looking for fresh-baked pastries or light bites for a picnic, don't miss Annie's. A great place for a budget-friendly breakfast, you can pick up everything from cinnamon rolls and donuts to breads stuffed with cream cheese, ham, and jalapenos.
Casa Pan Dulce

The biggest bakery right in San Pedro, if you're celebrating a birthday or another special occasion, it's the place to go for a beautifully decorated cake. The traditional Tres Leches cakes are a favorite - a must-try while you're here.
Island City Supermarket

There's a little bit of everything at the Island City Supermarket. Many come here to save money on groceries. If you're on a budget, discounts are often offered on weekends or you can buy a savings card for just a small cost. It's usually well worth it, especially if you plan to be in town more than a few days but keep a close watch for expired products here.
Marina's Super Store
Location: Sea Grape Dr, San Pedro, Belize
Hours: 6 AM - 11 PM weekdays, 6 AM - 12 Am weekends
At the south end of town, Marina's Super Store is iconic. A local favorite, you can find tortillas so fresh they're often still warm when you buy them. Incredibly well-stocked for its size, you'll find a good selection of beer and most staples, including cleaning products, along with eggs, dairy, fresh veggies and fruits. Visit on a Tuesday afternoon for the freshest produce as it will have just arrived.
