Activity Spotlight- Belize Food Tours
The local food culture in Belize is something to behold! Take advantage of the many traditional dishes on an excursion with Belize Food Tours. This small, family-owned business offers walking tours in downtown San Pedro, where you can sample tasting menus from a variety of authentic eateries. Choose from a lunch or dinner tour, any day of the week. This tour is best for anyone that loves to eat and can be accommodated for dietary restrictions with advance notice.
How does it work?
Book your tour for either lunch or dinner and meet your guide at the arrival time in Central Park, downtown San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. From there, you will spend around 2.5-3.5 hours strolling San Pedro and sampling menus at a variety of authentic, local restaurants. Come hungry and wear walking shoes!
What does the menu look like?
The best part about this tour is that it is highly focused on local faire, specializing in smaller, locally-owned eateries. Try Belizean favorites like fry jacks (fried tortilla dough served savory or sweet), ducunu (a boiled corn mash in the same vein as tamales, with a delicious coconut flavor), rice & beans, salbutes, and more! Don’t worry; dessert is included in both tour options!
How to Book?
You can book by filling out by either submitting a request form on their website, emailing them at [email protected] or by calling, texting, or sending a WhatsApp message to +501-613-1321. It is best to plan a day or more in advance, especially during busy holiday seasons.
Where to meet?
The meeting point is at Central Park. The guide is usually by the San Pedro sign in a bright orange shirt that says “Where’s the Food?”
How Long is the Tour?
The lunch tour is advertised from 11am to 1:30pm, however, if the group is a bit smaller it can end a little earlier, but if the group is a bit larger it can run until 2pm.
Likewise, the dinner tour is from 5pm to 8:30pm and the same happens if the group is smaller or larger.
Can Dietary Restrictions be Accommodated? (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies)?
The menus are tweaked for common dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free, and any allergies, with advance notice. The dinner tour is recommended for vegans as the menus are larger with more variety.
Maximum number of guests on the tour? Minimum to book?
