Begin your newly-married bliss with a honeymoon in Belize. With sunny days and warm tropical nights, a getaway for two in San Pedro has everything you need for romance. Travel is easier than ever to Belize with many direct flight hubs throughout North America. You can leave home and be relaxing on the beach later that day, drink in hand and new spouse by your side. Choose an adults-only resort on Ambergris Caye for your honeymoon to ensure a relaxing and romantic atmosphere.
Romance in Belize
Belize has a perfect blend of resorts, fine dining, adventurous excursions, and romantic touches to make it the ideal honeymoon destination. Choose a resort that offers a scenic view, on-site dining and a killer pool. Bonus points if there is a swim-up bar. Add some romance with dinner for two on the beach and dine under the stars. Schedule a couple’s massage either on the beach or in the privacy of your suite for the ultimate in relaxation and pampering. Spend time together exploring the island; rent a golf cart and drive out to Secret Beach for a day of sun and sand.
Top Belize Tours
There are a wide variety of tours to check out during your honeymoon. Don’t miss the snorkeling at Mexico Rocks or Hol Chan, both local sites just offshore from Ambergris Caye. Take the complimentary SUP boards or kayaks out for a spin to squeeze in a little fitness disguised as fun. Take a catamaran day sail to Caye Caulker, the next island south to check out the scene there. For the ultimate in adventure, do a triple-combo mainland tour of Mayan ruins, cave tubing, and a jungle canopy zip line. You’ll make memories you won’t soon forget! Cap your day in paradise with a romantic sunset sail along the coast of the island.
Belize Weather
Belize is a tropical country, with rainfall totaling 60 inches in the north and up to 160 inches in the south, annually. Temperatures do fluctuate throughout the year, but average 80 F, with the peak of the heat in April and May. While we don’t have the same seasons as our neighbors to the north, we do have distinct seasons. The dry season, February-May is typically is hot and dry, with little-to-no rainfall. It also coincides perfectly with Spring Break and as such is a very popular time to travel, meaning that the island is apt to be crowded during those months. The rains joyously return in June and Green Season begins, lasting through November. You’ll find a slower pace of life then, with mild weather and occasional showers, though they typically pass quite quickly.
Pros of Planning Your Belize Honeymoon During the Slow Season
Traveling to Belize during the slow season makes a lot of sense and has some practical perks to consider. Accommodation rates are typically lower and taking advantage of those discounts is a great way to stretch your vacation dollar. When the rains come back, everything greens up and many local fruits (think favorites like mango and avocado) come into season. Lobster is also available starting in mid-June through mid-February. Planning your honeymoon to avoid the peak travel times means that it is more likely to have a quiet resort with no competition for your favorite beach lounger or spot at the pool and your pick of the numerous restaurants in San Pedro.
While there really is no bad time to honeymoon in Belize, planning your romantic getaway during the offseason has distinct advantages that can make all the difference. The ease of travel in Belize lets the two of you explore a new destination together with minimal stress and often a good resort will take much of the planning off of your shoulders. Be sure to mention at booking that you’re celebrating your honeymoon and inquire about any packages or special touches offered. Happy honeymooning!
